The development of human communities and the introduction of machines into people's lives and the transition from the traditional life to the modern, exciting life of the new centuries have caused an increase in mental and emotional tensions and, as a result, an exponential increase in the number of people suffering from mental disorders; this increase has caused the need to redesign treatment methods based on new scientific findings and changes in proper physical structures according to these patterns. One of the new sciences whose effect can be investigated in the treatment of mental patients is the science of environmental psychology, especially the topic of patients' perception of the hospital environment.
The main purpose of this research was to investigate the application of environmental perception components in the design of mental treatment environment and the impact of the designed environment on the recovery process of patients. For this purpose, while exploring and searching the first-hand sources and researches conducted inside and outside Iran, a field research was done with a descriptive-quantitative method and collection of data in a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest design with a group. While designing an exclusive questionnaire (after verifying its validity), the data obtained from this questionnaire was extracted. The research hypotheses were also tested with the correlated t-test. Then using SPSS software to analyze the extracted data and examine the findings, it was found that the patients' priority regarding the components of environmental perception in the design of the ward were as follows: a. green space (20%) with an emphasis on green space inside and outside the ward (frequency percentage of 96) b. light and brightness (20%) with a preference for natural light (frequency percentage of 68) c. controlling annoying noises (18%) with an emphasis on controlling the sound of cars (frequency percentage of 64) d. color (10%) with the priority of warm color (frequency percentage of 64) e. visibility and view (6%) with a desire to see green spaces (frequency percentage of 100).
